So I got to watch one of my favorite shows last night- What Not to Wear. It really is amazing- if you have not seen it, tune in to TLC and you will be hooked!
The point of the show is helping someone with little fashion sense, or someone who has given up on dressing well and helping them to look stylish and nice. Just another makeover show?? Well, last night reminded me of why I love fashion and why it is so much more than getting a makeover.
This lady really had started using her clothes to put up a wall around her. By dressing the way she did- she was saying to the world "Stay Away" and "I don't care". When the hosts Stacy and Clinton asked her what her outfits were saying to people when she went out, one of her responses was "I am comfortable".
Now, it would be amazing if we lived in a world where what you look like did not matter...but we are not so lucky. People get their first impression of you based on how you look. Now, Stacy and Clinton are the first to point out that you want to dress well for your body type, so people can more easily look past your outfit to the person behind the clothes. If you dress sloppy, people see sloppy. If you dress in clothes that are too tight, outdated, not age appropriate or too obnoxious...people will be distracted, form an opinion and cast judgment before they even get to know you.
So Mommies- the point of this rambling post is: make your self a priority. Looking nice and put together does not have to cost a fortune and it does not take a lot of time. If you are just running to the store or picking up your kids from school- put on jeans a cute t-shirt and a cardigan with some cute flats! Skip the sweats! Who knows who you will meet each day and looking nice may open up doors you did not expect!
